How to Put Old T-Shirts to Use as Cleaning Rags

I'm hard at work right now clearing out and cleaning up the apartment. I've made my work difficult for myself, though. Since I starting more DIY projects, I've been stashing away everything that might maybe one day be sort of useful. I live in 700 square feet with my husband and small dog who eats everything. There's nowhere to stash away things that might maybe one day be useful. I know this fact, and I acknowledge this fact, and then I do store lots of things away anyway. Well, I've decided now I must tame the maybe-useful-one-day item stash, so I must use those items within the next two months, or they go away to the world of the land fill. I'm pulling clothes off the mending needed pile, fixing them and restoring them to their rightful place. Mending hems rather than buying new clothes

I have a stack of clothes right now that need to be fixed, suffering from hems that have come unraveled, holes in the seams, and buttons that have fallen off. Before I learned some sewing basics, I would have just declared those clothes to be toast, tossed them and had to go purchase new ones. Or I would have set them aside mournfully, waited a year hoping they would magically fix themselves, then finally given up when no miraculous clothes healing occurred and...tossed them. It turns out all you need is a few basic sewing skills to fix some of these problems, and save yourself some cash and a trip to either the mall or the tailor. Experiment #17: DIY Paper Christmas Tree

This is the beginning of a Christmas decorating and preparing extravaganza. I'm making all the Christmas presents, and I want more decorations than we had last year. I love Christmas decorations. I'll be making all those too. Today's project: a DIY Christmas Tree made from paper grocery bags. That's right. Paper bags. Trash. Recycling. Whatever it is that you do. This project consists of several paper bags aspiring to greatness, a cereal box working behind the scenes to assist them, and a glue gun.
